This unique technology is on the way to revolutionize the global denim production

12 Julio, 2019

The Jean never goes out of style. It is one of the most universal and timeless garments that exist and last in time, being a "must have" in the collections of each season for many years. A denim is always trend.

Jeans are one of the most iconic styles in fashion

We use denim pants regardless of sex, age, weather, purchasing level, language ... However, we do not realize the price that the environment pays for its production.

Considered one of the most harmful and polluting industries for the environment, textile production is responsible for 20% of wastewater globally. The use of water in the dyeing process, in addition to the latent problem with wastewater, are some of the biggest sustainability challenges in the manufacture of denim fabric. From cotton production to finishing, a pair of jeans uses thousands of liters of water.

Sustainable fashion is much more than wearing an eco-label. It is a new way of understanding the textile business and of making it compatible with the conservation of the environment, the care of the environment and society.

Aware of the need for change in the textile industry, TEJIDOS ROYO, in collaboration with Gaston Systems Inc. and Indigo Mill Designs (IMD) has managed to modify the process of conventional indigo dyeing, creating a unique dyeing process capable of dyeing without water , minimizing significantly its environmental impact and obtaining a unique color in the market.

American engineering and Spanish crafts join forces and give life to the DENIM REVOLUTION OF THE XXI CENTURY. "The idea, of course, is for the world to use this technology to democratize responsible denim," says José Rafael Royo, "making the fashion industry more sustainable is a joint responsibility"

THE FUTURE OF SUSTAINABLE DENIM, IS NOW

Wrangler's commitment to sustainability

Wrangler®, the iconic American brand of Denim, bet and invested in this method and teamed up with Tejidos Royo to bring it to the market. He is leading the revolution and tries to reach new horizons, always betting on quality, transparency and sustainability. This is how Indigood ™ born, a program to eliminate any negative aspect in the creation of denim garments.

It is the first fashion brand to adopt this pioneering technology called Dry Indigo®, a new foam dyeing process that eliminates 99 percent water, 89 percent less chemicals and 65 percent less energy than the method of traditional dyeing, in addition to generating Zero waste of water. Responsible production, using the most advanced technology in the market "by and for" sustainable development. A technology certified and guaranteed under the ECO - TECHNOLOGY of AITEX

THE DRY INDIGO® MACHINE

This is how Wrangler has launched Indigood ™, the first denim dyed with foam that is already part of its ICONS FW'19 collection. The brand affirms that this small collection is just the beginning. The explanation of the process: "Dyeing foam mainly changes the way the indigo is applied to the yarn during manufacture of jeans. The process uses foam to transfer the dye to the yarns, completely replacing the large water tanks and chemical baths of conventional dyeing, being the most sustainable way of dyeing in denim. "

In response to climate change and the global approach to water and energy conservation, the Wrangler Indigood cowboy production process eliminates almost all the impact on the environment and could usher in a new era of denim.

Indigood Collection

"We invest in the development of this innovation, because we believe that the denim industry can drastically change for the better," said Waldron. "We are grateful to have a leading industry partner in Royo, with whom we are taking this revolutionary step towards more sustainable denim."

Facts and figures:

The average impact of 1 jeans on the environment:

  • Around  8000 liters of water
  • 13 kg of carbon emissions
  • 10 kg of chemicals

The impact of jeans from the Icons Wrangler collection.

  • 100% less water in your tincture
  • 90% less chemicals
  • 60% less energy
  • No water discharge

Sustainability is established to reach a completely new dimension. It is hoped that this process will completely transform the denim industry
